Privacy, the way a kids' app should do it
SparkStories is built for children, so privacy is not an afterthought. Here is exactly what we collect, what we don't, and what you can do about it.
Last updated: 18 June 2026
What we collect
The child's first name, their age, and the interests you enter when you set up a profile; the answers chosen during activities (so the app can pick the right next story); and basic, non-identifying information needed to keep the app working and fix problems. If you contact us, we keep the email address and message you send.
What we don't collect
No advertising identifiers. No third-party advertising or tracking tools. No location. No access to your microphone or camera beyond what you deliberately use inside an activity. No biometric data.
Family photos and recordings stay on the device
Any photos or voice recordings you add for the Foundations activities are stored only on your own device. They are never uploaded to our servers, and we never see them. If you delete the app or the child's profile, they go with it.
We don't sell data
We do not sell or rent personal information. Not now, not later, not "anonymised," and not "to research partners." There is no version of this where your child's information becomes someone else's product.
Children's privacy
SparkStories is meant to be set up and managed by a parent or guardian, who provides any information about the child. We handle children's information in line with applicable children's-privacy laws, which may include the US Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), the EU and UK GDPR, and the Saudi Personal Data Protection Law (PDPL). A parent or guardian can review or delete their child's information at any time.
Your choices and deleting data
In the app, open Settings, then Data & Privacy, to delete all of a child's data; it is removed from our servers. You can also email us to ask what we hold or to request deletion, and we'll take care of it.
Keeping it safe, and how long we keep it
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect the information we hold, and we keep it only for as long as it's needed to run the app or as the law requires. No method of storage is ever perfectly secure, so we can't promise absolute security, but we treat your family's data as carefully as we'd want our own treated.
Changes to this policy
If we update this policy, we'll change the date at the top, and we'll flag anything significant. Continuing to use SparkStories after a change means you're okay with the updated policy.
